Set up a website to help people find your business.
If you have a business, the best way to get people to find you is by having your own website.
This should either be in your name or your business’ name. Having good, active social media pages is a great start, but nowadays, potential clients will expect more than this. If you’re unsure as to how to set up a website, this guide might be the best thing for you.
I’ve not only created this website, but also my blog, so I have plenty of experience in creating and running websites. It’s not as difficult as you think! If you’ve never made a website before, my only advice as an editor and proofreader is to check your web copy thoroughly.
Soon you’ll start instinctively knowing what it is you have to write in that pair of brackets, and what header needs to go with which section of code. Here’s some more advice on how to set up a website.
Find a Good Foundation
You need to start off by finding a good website builder to help you on your way. Blogger and WordPress are the most popular but look up some comparison tables. Both have the tools available to help you create your website and get your business truly up and running.
With either of these, you don’t need to understand coding to get a nice looking website.
Do your research into what builder is going to be the best for you and your needs. No doubt as your business grows, your needs will change. A builder also means that you’ll be able to get a site up and running within a couple of weeks.
Try Out Some Tutoring
The more you understand about coding, and website building, the better and more professional your website will look. You might then want to consider some personalised teaching. You can always try to learn alone, but it’s much better to learn in a group, like you can learn with an adobe dreamweaver class.
If you don’t know the first thing about coding, it’s time to look into getting classes. These can be done both off and online, so they’re completely down to your convenience. You never know, you might even find a free option out there!
Find the Best Domain
A domain name is what your brand is going to be known by, whether or not you’re trying to sell products. And your brand needs to stand out as soon as someone sees the link or header of your website. This is where the HTML code comes in.
It works wonders for making sure search engines recognise you in the way you want them to, and it means people are always going to be able to find you through an easy search term. So pick something unique, and try to keep it simple. A lot of the time companies like to mash words together and then wonder why people don’t find them; don’t make the same mistake!
Starting up a site from scratch is going to take a lot of time and effort, don’t doubt that. But it’s worth it for the experience.
